Who We Are

We are a community working towards awareness and support for all identities in IT at Duke. Since inception, we’ve been working ure that staff in IT feel seen, heard and acknowledged so that we can best support all others at Duke.

DiversifyIT Charter

DiversifyIT is a staff-led, volunteer organization at Duke University sponsored by the Office of Information Technology and Duke IT leadership. Up to nine staff are nominated and elected to serve on the steering committee. Duke IT Leadership representatives participate in the committee as sponsors and advisors.

Origins

Beginning as the “Women in Tech” group focusing on gender and technology, the group expanded its scope in 2015 after a panel discussion at Duke’s Tech Expo addressing all issues of diversity in IT.

Our Drive

Our ability to be seen in this way requires all of us. Duke’s values encompass respect, trust, inclusion discovery and excellence. This means that Duke’s staff and faculty must not only provide these attributes to others, they must receive them as well.

Our Vision

DiversifyIT is the space where we all can learn to listen for the quiet whispers of those who go unheard and for those that need support and help to find solutions and inspire change.

Our Mission

To encourage the Duke IT community to join the conversation about the value of differences in the workplace while advancing inclusion and diversity in our community by providing professional development, networking, and outreach opportunities.
