Last summer, members of DiversifyIT gathered to participate in a video project about DiversifyIT’s growth, impact and influence since George Floyd’s killing galvanized a movement. The videos were produced by J. Brandon Johnson over the last two years.
I: Everything Is A Choice
II: Cultural Climate Change
III: Doing The Work
Do you remember where you were and how it felt? The importance of the movement and the impact of the moments we share?
IV: Because We Were Exposed
The first roundtable cohort discusses the benefits and gained insight attained from exposure to the complex inner worlds of colleagues via the deep conversations that have occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic in the shadow of the murder of George Floyd.
V: A Question
With a couple years of a global pandemic behind us (that has highlighted disparities in all areas of society including race) cohort participant Laura Webb poses a compelling question now that we’ve collectively gained deeper understandings of one another.
VI: Can’t Be Ignored
With systemic inequity and injustice moving the the forefront of workplace discussions, the inaugural roundtable cohort discusses how we got to this place of discourse considering the reality that these issues have been in the background all along.
VII: I Did Not Know That
Perception is reality. These past couple of years our various experiences in isolation have allowed us to reflect on just how different our individual realities are. In this video, the cohort explores examining our lack of knowledge in this moment about each other and the revelations that have arisen as a result.
VIII: It’s Part of Your Job
As diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives pop up at workplaces all over the country many see the associated conversations as optional. Cohort participant Evan Levine explains why participation in these discussions is a necessity in building a healthier workplace.
IX: Not Required but Requested
The cohort explores the compulsory nature of this necessary work and asks the important question: If participation isn’t mandatory, is it still truly optional when the detrimental effects of silence are so apparent?
X: Incremental Groundwork
The cohort explores the compulsory nature of this necessary work and asks the important question: If participation isn’t mandatory, is it still truly optional when the detrimental effects of silence are so apparent?
XI: Prioritizing Comfort
As we navigate the workplace, underlying assumptions about one another abound and inevitably manifest in our behaviors. Laura and La’Shawnda discuss their unique team dynamic as co-chairs of Diversify IT and how implicit biases and unspoken preconceptions mold their respective experiences in identical roles.
