June 24, 2021
While many of us have found it easier to join conversations online while working remotely, we also know large-group Zoom discussions can sometimes be intimidating, especially conversations about race.
Let’s bring it down a bit.
We'd like to get everyone talking, and practicing with familiar colleagues so that these conversations become a little less uncomfortable.
Invite a few of your co-workers to join you in a small group and register for our DiversifyIT workshop, “Inclusive Conversations: Can we talk?” to be held at 3 – 4:30 p.m on June 24.
Pre-registration is required by the end of the day on Friday, June 18: https://duke.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eh8JXS5kAnrxwvY
During this event we’ll break into small groups of 3 to 5 people to talk about a diversity-related topic. You’ll get pointers on how to bring up conversations and how to include everyone.
There’s some pre-work for this event:
- Invite 2 to 4 IT colleagues who you talk to regularly to participate. This could be folks on your work team or other IT teams (bonus points for inviting someone who hasn’t attended a DiversifyIT event!).
- Register your group for the session by Friday, June 18: https://duke.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eh8JXS5kAnrxwvY
- Pick a diversity-related topic to discuss (anything from racism, ageism, gender discrimination to emotional intelligence or neurodiversity).
