Remember that art piece we all worked on? It’s done! We’re planning the Unveiling at Power House for the end of August. Join us to see the amazing art! (register if you want a chance for food or swag at the event!)
We’re working on a podcast to discuss revolutionary and rebel music that’s helped move us to awareness and change throughout our lives. The Audacity Of This Pitch podcast is hosted by Brandon Johnson and Chris Derickson with the occasional guest. If you’d like to be a guest or have ideas or songs you’d like discussed, email us to let us know.
You’ve likely seen the Word of the Week pop in your mailbox every Monday. We’d like to hear from you on suggestions of words that you’d like people to be aware of or need examples of so that we’re sure to expand our vocabulary on identity related themes. Understanding foundational vocabulary keeps us from the awkwardness of having to sometimes relive trauma while trying to explain to our peers that certain words, certain behaviors can be harmful and cause people to feel oppressed, abused and invisible in the workplace.
We have a link in the MS Teams channel to add suggestions or you can click here to add your suggestions and examples of words that you’d like your peers to know: Word of the Week Submission Form
We’re also working with our partners around Duke to present a DiversifyIT Mental Health event to present resources and tools that can help us know how to handle signs of stress, determine if we’re just stressed or if we’re crossing into mental health concerns.
Community Engagement is working to add more experiences and ways to get into IT for the general public on the public site Get with IT. This is a DiversifyIT sponsored site to help the general public and those not in IT roles at Duke to learn how to IT experiences and see how they may fit in the IT profession. We’re looking for videos and examples of how non-technical roles relate to IT and how someone in a non-technical role might find opportunities to get with IT!
We’d love to hear from you! What would you like to see from DiversifyIT? Would you like to get more involved? Write to us at DiversifyIT-info@duke.edu and let’s talk!
