Johns Hopkins University’s news center announces the university’s pledge to advance equity, inclusion, and address discrimination.
The university will also launch an initiative that examines the history of discrimination at Johns Hopkins and how the university has both reinforced discrimination and served as a force to combat it.
“Johns Hopkins will also create a committee of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees to develop principles and a process for evaluating the naming of buildings and programs for individuals known to hold racist or unacceptable views, or the presence of statues or likenesses of these problematic figures.” “The final initiative involves strengthening the university’s current suite of anti-racist and inclusion training and education tools this summer. These efforts will be aimed at providing opportunities for managers, leaders, and the university community at large to engage in continued dialogue and healing.
The Harvard Gazette announces the launch of Harvard Culture Lab Innovation Fund (HCLIF), which will provide students, staff, faculty, and postdocs with competitive grants to pursue projects that aim to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Harvard.

Wayne State University promotes their efforts to promote STEM education by:
- Creating and maintaining technology-heavy initiative curriculum to its high school participants during a summer residency.
- Partnered with Quicken Loans to sponsor CodeDetroit, a computer coding initiative targeting 2,000 Detroit public school students.
- Sponsored a “summer science academy” that draws 500 students between ages 7 and 17 to teach them how to make their own webpages, create their own video games and engineer smartphone applications.
- Maintained a 40-plus-year relationship with one of the oldest and most successful local STEM efforts in existence, the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP), which was founded in 1976.
- Collaborates with tech giant Microsoft as part of the company’s TEALS program, which permits tech industry professionals to serve as volunteer teachers each week in public schools suffering a shortage of teachers and equipment.
Google/Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichai commits to improving representation underrepresented groups by 30% before 2025. He also addresses representation challenges and focus on hiring, retention, and
promotion at all levels. In addition to the following economic commitments:
- $50 million in financing and grants for small businesses, focused on the Black community and in partnership with Opportunity Finance Network. This commitment builds on our recent $125 million Grow with Google Small Business Fund that is helping underserved minority and women-owned small businesses across the U.S. https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/grow-with-google/small-business-fund-cdfi
- $100 million in funding participation in Black-led capital firms, startups and organizations supporting Black entrepreneurs, including increased investments in Plexo Capital and non-dilutive funding to Black founders in the Google for Startups network.
- $15 million in training, through partners like the National Urban League, to help Black jobseekers grow their skills.
- $10 million+ to help improve the Black community’s access to education, equipment and economic opportunities in our developer ecosystem, and increase equity, representation and inclusion across our developer platforms, including Android, Chrome, Flutter, Firebase, Google Play and more.
